Renew Moline, in 2020, commissioned a public art project to beautify the Spiegel Building that sits immediately adjacent to the new I-74 bridge (still under construction at the time the mural was completed).  Using the window frames as a palate, Renew sought an artist to use the space to indicate the potential of the building—either in a design of the artist’s own, or using the work “Possibility” in the work.  A Public Art Steering Committee was convened by Renew Moline, and a Call for Entries developed.  The project was intended to accomplish three main goals:  beautify/draw attention to the building, encourage dialogue about the future development of the area and create curiosity/interest in the building.  Brandon Nees’s proposal using the word “possibility” was the unanimous consensus of the Committee, and the mural was installed in October 2020. Mr. Nees described his style as “an abstract taste of contemporary typography using mixed media” and he has since gone on to other projects, commissions and involvement in the QC arts community.
