In the fall of 1999, Deere & Company offered to donate land along River Drive to the American Red Cross. Deere also donated $200,000 toward the project, which was the deciding factor in the Red Cross’s decision to move its headquarters.  The 13,500-square-foot building enhanced accessibility and increased efficiency among Red Cross employees and volunteers. The new headquarters provided 5,000 more square feet for training and meetings, offering handicapped accessibility. A training center and disaster services center is located on the main floor, while the second floor houses a large conference room, administration offices and volunteer workstations. The $2.52-million building project was completed in 2001.
