ACTIVE PROJECTS IT BUSINESS ZONE |
||||
PROJECT OVERVIEW The IT Business Zone, located in the western half of the Mississippi River Technology Corridor, provides downtown space attractive to businesses utilizing and/or providing such services as e-commerce and data storage that benefit from the existing technology infrastructure. The project is part of a larger effort to promote and infuse the downtown with all means necessary to create a vibrant technology-based core, while also working to retrofit existing structures and transition existing businesses into this new mold. John Deere’s technology-oriented 19th Street Building is an anchor tenant in this district, along with the current KONE North American R&D Center, QC Online, Internet Express, and firms like Armor IT. Not only do these facilities employ several hundred people, but they also draw other technology-related businesses to downtown. The area is serviced with wide bandwidth fiber optics and has a redundant power supply providing vital IT capabilities. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION A primary goal is to better integrate the area into downtown, while providing the project its own unique identity. Expansion of the John Deere Tech Center would include the demolition of blighted, adjacent properties. An inviting courtyard would accompany such an expansion. A mid-LeClaire block courtyard would continue the streetscape and greenspace onto 5th Avenue. This courtyard would continue to provide parking as well as serve as open space for those living in apartments on the LeClaire Block.
