WEST GATEWAY


PROJECT OVERVIEW - $3 Million Investment

Development has been slated for a two-block area located in downtown Moline’s west end, known as the West Gateway District.  The project is the combination of an open air market (mercado), restaurant, retail, commercial and office space.  New plans now call for a $1.6 million dollar first phase development for a new Community Healthcare building.  The proposed area is within walking distance to all downtown activities including Centre Station and the i wireless Center

The West Gateway project has been a dream of the City and citizens of Moline for years since it was incorporated into the Moline Centre Plan’s 2001 revision.  The development team is led by Bob Ontiveros of West Gateway Properties.  The first phase of development is complete with the opening of the $1.6 million Community Healthcase building in 2009.

PHYSICAL DESCRITPION

The plans for West Gateway incorporate the charm and flavor of the adjacent Floresciente Hispanic neighborhood.  The mixed-use development incorporates a blend of public and private spaces including and open-air market for hosting food vendors, outdoor entertainment, and neighborhood gatherings as well as spaces for offices, retail and a restaurant with outdoor patio dining.

The planned high-density, mixed-use development is favorable to pedestrian traffic and public transportation.  With the Community Healthcare Center serving as the anchor tenant, the site includes office space and potential for locally-owned Spanish grocery store space. In keeping with the Moline Centre plan, the idea is to have a diverse locale that complements the local culture and beautifully rehabilitates the under-used site.

SCHEDULES

Grants and other sources of revenue are being acquired for Moline's West Gateway redevelopment.  Groundbreaking plans will be unveiled once West Gateway Properties (the site's developer) and the City of Moline approve a development agreement.
